A second-generation Korean American born in St. Louis, Dr. Kim graduated summa cum laude in biochemistry from Harvard College and received his medical degree at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Kim completed his internship at Cornell, affiliated with New York Hospital in New York City and finished his internal medicine training at the UCLA Center for the Health Sciences. Dr. Kim spent two years in private practice in San Fernando Valley before returning to UCLA’s West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital for an Allergy Fellowship.

Dr. Kim, the founder of West Coast Clinical Trials, has been a principal investigator, sub investigator, or consultant on over 400 clinical trials including over 100 phase I trials. He has been a leading investigator in the respiratory field, and his group has overseen methacholine challenges, allergen inhalation challenges, exercise induced challenge, mannitol challenges, bronchoscopy, sputum collection, and biomarker proof of concept studies. He has authored over 50 abstracts and 31 full articles. He has had a special interest in ethno bridging trials, having met the PMDA (Japan’s regulatory authority) and the Korean FDA and spoken in China on phase I bridging work. He also has extensive experience in conducting pediatric trials, having presented to the FDA in this arena on two occasions. He is frequently used as a consultant for trial design and strategy by sponsors.
